Our Latest Investment: i-5O

Automotive Ventures has just made an investment into company i-5O (“i-FIVE-O”) out of our our Mobility Fund. i-5O has developed a proprietary computer vision solution to help manufacturers track, measure and improve their manual production processes. The company counts several automotive Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs as customers, and has demonstrated 99.8% accuracy. We're thrilled to partner with Albert and Khizer on their journey making automotive manufacturing more efficient. How you can help i-5O: introductions to Tier 1s and OEMs, particularly relevant right now are those with manufacturing operations in Japan and Mexico. (Link)

(Link)Researchers found a way to hack the hardware in Tesla’s infotainment system, allowing them to get what normally would be paid upgrades (such as heated rear seats) for free. (Link)The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has handed down its largest ever fine of $299 million for 'car warranty' robocall scammers accused of bombarding the public with as many as five billion unwanted calls. (Link)The California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) will review the data privacy practices of automakers that make and sell connected vehicles. Privacy advocates have raised concerns that these vehicles often automatically gather consumers’ locations, personal preferences, and other details about their daily lives. (Link)Ford CEO Jim Farley said he is hearing consumers who express apprehension about all-electric vehicles and has adjusted company strategy. Many competitors are touting a desire to shift completely to electric vehicles. Ford is pumping the brakes. Ford will reveal a refreshed Ford F-150 hybrid at the Detroit auto show in mid-September. (💲Link)A bill introduced on Tuesday by New York state officials could force NYC's most ticket-prone drivers to install speed governors on their vehicles as a result of their bad behavior. (Link)Waymo plans to launch a robotaxi service in Austin — putting the company once again in direct competition with rival Cruise. Austin will be the company’s fourth commercial market following Phoenix, San Francisco and Los Angeles. (Link)The fastest growing & declining industries in the U.S. courtesy of Visual Capitalist.
